Pierre Hermé ice cream and new store in Le Marais

The much-loved Pierre Hermé recently opened a new store in the trendy Marais. I wanted to see what the place looked like but above all I needed to have a taste of their new ice cream. The sweltering weather in Paris calls for a little refreshment!

Located on a small street (details), this is Pierre Hermé’s 7th stand-alone store in Paris. It’s open every day until 10:30pm, which is exceptional in this city. The place is much bigger than the boutiques on rue Bonaparte and rue Cambon so you don’t feel crammed. Its only major fault, in my opinion, is the absence of chic Pierre Hermé pastries. But of course you can still find macarons. Plenty of macarons!

Have you tried Pierre Hermé’s limited edition Velouté collection?  The macarons are a delicious combination of yoghurt and flavors including banana, raspberry, ispahan and lime. If you like yoghurt ice cream, you will love this.

And now the reason I came to this store from across town: the ice cream! Pierre Hermé offers two types with a wide variety of flavors: Miss Gla’gla sandwiches and pots that come in two sizes.

I went for the “Infiniment Citron” with lemon ice cream, lemon almond paste and macaron biscuits. The paper surrounding the pot was already moist so I ran to the nearby park to eat it up. I (naively?) expected it to look like the cute pots on display and on the website with their swirls of ice cream and chunks of macarons. So imagine my surprise when I opened the lid to see this:

As an avid lover of desserts, I am fully aware that ugly-looking does not bar out yummy. So I digged in… and what a disappointment. It wasn’t terrible but you’d expect better from Pierre Hermé. 5 minutes at most after leaving the store, the ice cream had already melted quite a bit and didn’t bring out the flavor. The macaron was too soft and moist.

Luckily I had another treat in my bag.

Ah macarons, you never fail me. This sparkled beauty’s name is Jardin Fruité: lime and red berries. Très bon!

Now tell me, do you have a favorite ice-cream flavor, brand or place? I’d love to try out new things and we’re having the perfect weather to do so! Have a lovely weekend!

Pierre Herme store Le Marais inside

Bon weekend !

this brings new meaning to the phrase “candy for the eyes”… I was wondering how you would compare these ice cream to italian gelatos?

  2. Love your post ! Off to Paris next Friday evening but only staying overnight, shame i won’t be able to try those amazing Pierre Herme ice cream…and macarons !

  3. I was getting pretty excited when I saw the photos of the ice cream but erm…. even I have to admit that the flat blob in the pot doesn’t look very attractive. Too bad they don’t have the other pastries. I’m not really into macarons but I love their other delightful concoctions.

    • Talk about deceiving advertisement. The difference between that and what is actually sold is quite comical. (And how can you be “not really into macarons”?? ;-)

  4. How sad, I just read this post and wanted to visit the ice cream shop, now that I know, I am sad. Thank you for being honest!

I’m Italian and I love ice cream. For excellent Italian ice cream in Paris you should definitely try Pozzetto in the Marais. A good alternative is Grom in rue de Seine but please avoid Amorino if you can. For a widely available brand I can suggest Ben & Jerrys ( my favourite flavour is Chunky Monkey) or La bonne maman available in Picard. Enjoy!!!!

    • I love Grom! I used to work near one of their stores and would go there after lunch very regularly in the summer :-) Love Ben & Jerry’s too; my favorite is Cookie Dough. I’ll try Pozzetto, thanks!
